Master cylinder forging is one of the most important parts of extruder. The whole process of operation always bears the action of alternating load of high pressure liquid (emulsion or hydraulic oil). Because of the erosion of liquid flow and the cavitation of gas separated from the liquid, there are obvious corrosion marks on the upper surface of the main cylinder forgings. This problem is particularly serious when the emulsion is used as the main cylinder of the working fluid. Scour marks are generally glossy furrows. The cavitation is generally sponge like pockmarks. Slight erosion and cavitation marks can be repaired and welded, while serious erosion and cavitation marks will lead to the failure of the main cylinder forgings of the extruder.
Due to the long-term effect of high pressure liquid, the transverse or longitudinal cracks in the main cylinder forgings are also common problems. If cast steel structure is adopted, there are undetected structural defects inside; or there are problems in forging steel welding structure, welding process or residual thermal stress after welding, which may lead to serious consequences of failure of main cylinder. However, the occurrence of minor cracks, timely detection and early treatment can avoid the occurrence of serious situations.
After slight cracks appear in cast steel structure and forged steel structure, repair welding can generally be used. Before welding, the crack shall be inspected, and a small hole shall be drilled at the end of the crack to avoid the continuous development of the crack. Then, the grinding wheel shall be used to remove the trace of the crack, and then the repair welding shall be carried out. Welding rod and welding process shall be selected correctly for repair welding, and proper heat treatment shall be carried out after welding. Otherwise, the repaired part may be the source of new cracks.
